Casual Competitive Environment
The Bronze-level Get Good Series event is intended to be a more relaxed and welcoming version of our standard cEDH tournaments. While competitive decks and play are still expected, the atmosphere will be more casual, with an emphasis on learning, improvement, and good sportsmanship.
TURN ORDER START PROCEDURE:
1st Seat: No Draw
2nd Seat: Scry 1, No Draw
3rd Seat: Scry 1, Draw 1
4th Seat: Scry 1, Scry 1, Draw 1
The Turn Order Start Procedure for our Bronze-level cEDH events is intended to address the competitive advantage associated with going first in multiplayer games. Turn order can meaningfully impact win rates, which can influence a player’s overall performance depending on the seat they receive during a tournament.
This procedure establishes a structured way to manage turn order so that the advantage of going first is distributed more evenly across the event. The goal is to reduce the impact of seating position on results and help ensure that tournament outcomes are determined more by gameplay and player decisions than by turn order.
This approach is particularly useful in a Bronze-level event, where the tournament effectively functions as a Top 16 advancing into a Top 4. Because draws are effectively not possible in this structure, each game produces a definitive result, which makes seat-based win rate data more meaningful and reinforces the importance of distributing turn order as evenly as possible throughout the event.
This will only be applied to our Bronze-level events currently as sort of a testing grounds.
Judging: There will be no dedicated judge on staff, so players are expected to communicate clearly, resolve rules questions cooperatively, and maintain a fair and respectful play environment.
Tournament Info
Rounds will be 80 minutes with no additional turns being added. The current turn at time will be the last turn, if the game does not end on that turn, the game will be considered a draw. Additionally, if 20 minutes pass without a clear winner after the 80 minutes are up, the game will also be declared a draw. If a draw is declared, tiebreakers will be decided by highest life total, then cards left in library. The event will be capped at 16 players and run as a single-elimination tournament. All 16 players will compete in Round 1. The winners will advance to Round 2, which will be a single 4-player pod to determine final placements.
Kingmaking, Spite Plays, Etc. - Everyone is expected to make plays that maximize their ability to win the game. That said, players can, and do, make sub-optimal plays and mistakes. Due to the nature of multiplayer games though, sometimes there are "coin-flip" or other similar decisions that must be made in order to advance the game state. There is no way to set up rules to enforce certain types of game play that will not lead to unintended consequences regarding what is and isn't permissible. For that reason, we will not be making determinations regarding what is "okay" for a player to do, or not do, outside of what is legal by the mechanics of the game. For example, using Pact of Negation to stop a Turn 1 win, despite not having a way to pay for the upkeep cost is perfectly reasonable due to the eliminated player having a chance to receive 1 point for a draw if the game would come to that conclusion. This is by no means meant to present an exhaustive list. Any issues regarding this policy can be brought to the TO's attention.
*Proxy Rules*
Our event is 100% proxy friendly but proxies must be a single piece of cardboard. Printed proxies on any sort of printer paper in front of another Magic card are NOT ALLOWED. They must be the same thickness and feel of a real Magic card, we recommend using any proxies from a professional proxy website. Proxies must also be clear about what card they are representing. Any unclear card will be replaced with a flip card before the start of the event during deck checks.
