Tournament Info
Players will play 4 Swiss rounds. We will cut to a Top 16. Highest seeded players will be first in turn order during elimination rounds. Turn order for elimination rounds is based on Swiss standings with the highest seed in descending order.
Swiss rounds will be 80 minutes with no additional turns being added. The current turn at time will be the last turn, if the game does not end on that turn, the game will be considered a draw. Additionally, if 20 minutes pass without a clear winner after the 80 minutes are up, the game will also be declared a draw. Wins will be worth 5 points, draws worth 1 point. Semi-finals will last a maximum of 3 hours and finals will last the maximum amount of time up to 11pm (minimum of 2 hours), and slow play will be enforced - up to and including potential disqualification.
Schedule:
Doors: 10am
Player Meeting: 10:45am-11am
Round 1-4: 11am-6pm
Semi-Finals (Top 16): 6pm-9pm
Finals (Top 4): 9pm-11pm
Pairings - We will create as many four player pods as possible. In the event total attendance is not divisible by 4, there will be only 1 three pod formed at anytime and a maximum of two byes given.
**BECAUSE THIS IS MORE OF A CASUAL EVENT, ALL RULES LISTED BELOW ARE MORE GUIDELINES THAN HARD RULES**
Concessions - Due to the nature of multiplayer games, concessions can have a tremendous amount of impact on the game state. In order to prevent the misuse of game rules, a concession can take place during the conceding player's main phase with a clear stack. If a player does concede, the turn will proceed by moving through the remaining steps and phases with appropriate priority passes. Any player who concedes NOT on their turn, and/or NOT at sorcery speed on their turn, will be DROPPED from the tournament and be DISQUALIFIED. **NOTE: a player is free to leave at any time, for whatever reason.
Kingmaking, Spite Plays, Etc. - Everyone is expected to make plays that maximize their ability to win the game. That said, players can, and do, make sub-optimal plays and mistakes. Due to the nature of multiplayer games though, sometimes there are "coin-flip" or other similar decisions that must be made in order to advance the game state. There is no way to set up rules to enforce certain types of game play that will not lead to unintended consequences regarding what is and isn't permissible. For that reason, we will not be making determinations regarding what is "okay" for a player to do, or not do, outside of what is legal by the mechanics of the game. For example, using Pact of Negation to stop a Turn 1 win, despite not having a way to pay for the upkeep cost is perfectly reasonable due to the eliminated player having a chance to receive 1 point for a draw if the game would come to that conclusion. This is by no means meant to present an exhaustive list. Any issues regarding this policy can be brought to the TO's attention.
*Proxy Rules*
Our event is 100% proxy friendly but proxies must be a single piece of cardboard. Printed proxies on any sort of printer paper in front of another Magic card are NOT ALLOWED. They must be the same thickness and feel of a real Magic card, we recommend using any proxies from a professional proxy website. Proxies must also be clear about what card they are representing. Any unclear card will be replaced with a flip card before the start of the event during deck checks.
